Changes to Telenor Group’s Executive Management and new CEOs in Thailand and Myanmar

Telenor Group announced management changes in Asia, in addition to changes in the Group staff functions.

Management changes in Asia

The Board of Directors of dtac has appointed Alexandra Reich as new CEO, replacing Lars Åke Norling who has already accepted a position outside Telenor Group. Reich joined Telenor Group in November 2016, and currently serves as CEO of Telenor Hungary and Head of Telenor Group’s Central Eastern Europe cluster. She will take the helm of dtac prior to the end of the current CEO’s tenure.

Sharad Mehrotra has been appointed CEO of Telenor Myanmar. Mehrotra joined Telenor in 2008 and has served in senior management positions in India and Myanmar, most recently as CEO of Telenor India. Mehrotra replaces Lars Erik Tellman, who has been appointed to a senior position in Telenor’s Emerging Asia cluster supporting management, partnerships and business development of the cluster. The change is effective 1 August 2018.

Albern Murty, the CEO of Digi in Malaysia, will join Telenor Group’s Executive Management team as responsible for the Developed Asia cluster. Murty will retain his CEO position in Digi and oversee Telenor’s operations in Thailand and Malaysia, effective 1 August 2018.

Strengthening ownership capabilities at Group

Wenche Agerup, currently Head of Corporate Affairs and member of Telenor Group’s Executive Management, will head up a new unit, Group Holdings, which will be responsible for strengthening the follow-up and development of Telenor’s investments in digital growth areas, telco-adjacent businesses and other areas like real estate and global wholesale. Agerup will enter her new role from 1 July 2018. The process to find a new Head of Corporate Affairs is ongoing. In the interim, Håkon Bruaset Kjøl, SVP and Head of Public and Regulatory Affairs will act in the role.

Telenor Group’s Financial Services and Health sector operations, active in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Myanmar, will change reporting lines to the Emerging Asia cluster.

Changes in the Corporate Affairs function

Siri Birgitte Bang Berge, currently Head of Group Legal, has been appointed General Counsel with immediate effect. She will report directly to the President & CEO.

Severin Roald, who has served as SVP and Head of Group Communications since 2015, has accepted a position outside Telenor. The process to find his replacement is ongoing.

Bio on appointed leaders

Wenche Agerup, appointed SVP Group Holdings
Wenche Agerup is currently the EVP and Head of Corporate Affairs at Telenor Group, and has also held the role as General Counsel.

She was previously Executive Vice President, Corporate Staffs at Hydro, responsible for Legal Services, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Human Resources and Organizational Development (HR), Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and the Company Secretary.

She worked in Hydro from 1997 until January 2015, and held several positions including plant manager in Årdal, Norway, and head of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A). She has also headed Hydro’s bauxite exploration activities in Western Australia.

Albern Murty, incoming EVP for Developed Asia cluster and CEO, Digi, Malaysia (continued)
Albern Murty has spent the last 13 years in a variety of senior executive roles in Digi. In January 2014, Albern became the company’s COO after serving as Chief Marketing Officer for a number of years. Before Digi, his previous experience includes business and commercial management roles in Lucent Technologies across the Asian region.

Albern Murty holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, and Bachelor of Science in Advertising Management from Portland State University, Oregon, USA. He is a Malaysian national.

Siri Birgitte Bang Berge, SVP Group Legal, appointed General Counsel
Siri Birgitte Bang Berge joined Telenor Group as SVP and Head of Group Legal in September 2016. Prior to joining Telenor, she worked as a partner in Kluge, a Norway-based law firm. She has also served as Head of Legal in several business areas in Aker Solutions, and she has worked in Wikborg Rein. Bang Berge has broad expertise in contract law within the oil and gas industry as well as in advisory when it comes to establishing operations in new geographic markets, including anti-corruption compliance.

Siri Bang Berge received her Law degree from the University of Bergen in 1998.

Currently CEO at Telenor Hungary, a position she has held since joining Telenor Group in August 2016. Served as Executive Vice President and Head of Central Eastern Europe (CEE) cluster as a member of Telenor’s Group Executive Management team until March 2018, when Telenor announced the divestment of its CEE assets.

Prior to joining Telenor Group, Reich served as EVP and Head of Mobile Business for Swisscom Enterprise for two years. She joined the Swiss company in 2009.

Alexandra Reich started her career in investment banking, but became a pioneer in the online business with her first own digital business start-up in 1986. She joined the telecommunications industry in 2001, holding roles at VIAG Interkom, General Manager of T-Online Austria, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at 3G Hutchison Austria and COO for private customers at Sunrise in Zurich.

Alexandra Reich holds a Business Management Degree from Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration in Austria. She is an Austrian national.

Sharad Mehrotra, incoming CEO, Telenor Myanmar
Served as CEO of Telenor India, a position he has held since 2015. Sharad Mehrotra joined Telenor ten years ago as part of the core management team launching operations in India.

Based on this experience, he moved on to develop best practices in sales and distribution for Telenor operations across the entire Asian region, based in Bangkok. In 2013, he was appointed the first CMO in Telenor Myanmar, and helped launch and build the company during its first two years of commercial operations.

Prior to joining Telenor, he served in companies such as Aircel, Ericsson and BPL Telecom in India.

Sharad Mehrotra holds a BE degree in Electronics engineering from Pune University and an MBA in marketing management. He is an Indian national.

Lars Erik Tellmann, appointed SVP Emerging Asia cluster
Lars Erik Tellmann has served as CEO at Telenor Myanmar since August 2016. Before taking the helm, he was CFO in the company since July 2013.

Tellmann has also served as Senior Vice President and Head of Strategic Development in Telenor Asia, as Director and Board Member in a number of Telenor’s publicly listed mobile companies in the Asia region. He joined Telenor in 2001, and has served Telenor Group in South-East Asia for over eight years.

Lars Erik Tellmann holds a Master of Science in Business (MSc) from University of Nordland (UIN) and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

Håkon Bruaset Kjøl, acting EVP Corporate Affairs
Håkon Bruaset Kjøl is Senior Vice President and Head of Public & Regulatory Affairs for Telenor Group. Kjøl joined Telenor Group in 1995, starting his career in the domestic mobile operation in Norway. Prior to his current global role Mr. Kjøl served as the Telenor Group’s head of Corporate Affairs for the Asia region. Kjøl serves on the Board of Directors of several Telenor Group companies in Singapore, Telenor in Myanmar, Telenor in Pakistan, Dtac in Thailand, Grameenphone in Bangladesh and Digi in Malaysia.

Kjøl holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and studies in public relations from BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo. He has been residing in Singapore for 17 years.
