Smithfield Foods Donates $12,000 to Local Scholarship Program

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is pleased to announce that its Monmouth facility has donated $12,000 to fund scholarships for 12 graduating high school seniors in the surrounding area. Scholarship gifts of $1,000 per student is funded through money generated by the facility’s recycling program. Smithfield has provided scholarship funding to the local community through its Monmouth facility for the past 10 years, having awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to date.
 
“Smithfield’s financial support helps our youth reach their full potential by better positioning them for post-secondary education,” said Ed Fletcher, superintendent of the Monmouth-Roseville School District. “Smithfield has been a long-time supporter of our public school system and our community, and we could not be more grateful for their ongoing contributions.”
 
The graduating seniors will be majoring in pre-med, early childhood education, biology, liberal arts, and general studies at a number of colleges and universities throughout the Midwest, including Carl Sandburg College, Northern Illinois University, Aurora University, Knox College, University of Iowa, Scott Community College, Black Hawk College, and Illinois Central College.
 
Smithfield’s Monmouth facility was established in 1962 and employs more than 1,600 local employees.
