Indoor Environmental Quality a Key Component of National Healthy Schools Day

EMSL Analytical provides testing services, sampling supplies, test kits and monitoring instruments to identify indoor environmental quality issues.

Cinnaminson, NJ – WEBWIRE

The Healthy Schools Network and dozens of partners around the country will celebrate the 16th National Healthy Schools Day on April 3rd. This important day of recognition aims to raise awareness of indoor air quality (IAQ) and other indoor environmental quality (IEQ) issues and challenges that the nation’s schools frequently encounter. National Healthy Schools Day has brought attention to the ways that school and child care environments can affect children’s health.

Providing a healthy learning environment for students can be a challenge for both public and private schools. Tight operating budgets too often means preventive maintenance and repair issues are not always addressed promptly. This all too often has an impact on both the IAQ and IEQ of school buildings.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states, “Evidence from schools and office building studies demonstrate that various environmental conditions are closely associated with the incidence of measurable adverse health effects, and that indoor air quality problems can result in increased absences because of respiratory infections, allergic diseases from biological contaminants, or adverse reactions to chemicals used in the building.”

“EMSL Analytical, Inc. proudly supports the efforts of raising awareness of National Healthy Schools Day and other endeavors by private and governmental agencies to improve the indoor environment of schools, universities and other places of learning,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Students need a healthy place to learn and excel. Exposure to elevated concentrations of chemicals, mold, bacteria, particulates, and other substances can all have a direct negative impact on one’s ability to concentrate and learn. At EMSL, we provide both IAQ and IEQ testing services, sampling supplies, test kits and monitoring instruments. These services are instrumental for pinpointing any existing issues so corrective actions can be put in place.”
