Coca-Cola HBC recognised as a world leader in supply chain sustainability

WEBWIRE

We are incredibly proud to win yet another award for our sustainability practices, this time, for our entire value chain. Our suppliers are critical partners in the sustainable success of our business. This allows us to make an impact beyond our own operations to improve the environment and society. -Marcel Martin, Supply Chain Director

At Coca-Cola HBC, we’ve been championing sustainability for many years. This year we’re delighted to have secured a position on the Supplier Engagement Leader Board compiled by the CDP, the leading non-profit environmental disclosure platform. This means we’re leading the way with our actions and strategies to manage carbon and climate change across our supply chain – from planting and harvesting commodities to the production line.

Earning a place on CDP’s leader board also places us among the top 2% of the 3,300 companies that were assessed.

We believe that businesses have a key role in finding solutions to climate challenges and as one of the big buyers, we know that we can make a real difference in driving down emissions across the supply chain. We’re doing this by working with:

  • cooler suppliers to develop energy-efficient and HFC-free coolers
  • packaging suppliers to create lightweight packages and use more recycled materials
  • recovery organisations to set up waste collection and waste recovery schemes
  • suppliers of agricultural commodities to achieve international certification from the likes of the Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade, Bonsucro and the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform

These initiatives contribute to our 2020 commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of the drink in your hand by 25% compared to our 2010 baseline. In 2016 we reduced this by 20.6%, and in 2017 we achieved a 23.2% reduction – so we’re well on track to meeting our target.

This latest recognition isn’t the first time we’ve been awarded with a prestigious CDP ranking, having gained the highest ‘A’ rating on CDP’s Climate and Water lists in 2017.

In 2017 we were also named the global sustainability leader in the beverage industry, topping the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the fourth year in a row.
