LA Testing is pleased to announce that its Huntington Beach, California laboratory has added a new accreditation through the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA-LAP, LLC) Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Accreditation Program (IHLAP). LA Testing has been approved for a new method of testing for hexavalent chromium by the ion chromatography (IC) method. With this accreditation, LA Testing is accredited in accordance with the recognized International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005 General Requirements for testing and calibration.

Hexavalent chromium is a toxic form of the element chromium. Hexavalent chromium compounds are man-made and widely used in many different industries. Industrial uses include chromate pigments in dyes, paints, inks and plastics; chromates added as anticorrosive agents to paints, primers and other surface coatings; and chromic acid electroplated onto metal parts to provide a decorative or protective coating. Hexavalent chromium can also be formed when performing hot work, such as welding on stainless steel or melting chromium metal.

“Our Huntington Beach laboratory now performs hexavalent chromium analysis by NIOSH 7600, which is used for area monitoring for historical purposes or clients who wish to have an extended holding time,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “With the additional AIHA-LAP, LLC accreditation parameter, the laboratory has now added analysis by OSHA Method ID-215.”

LA Testing’s Huntington Beach laboratory offers asbestos and microbiology testing services. The laboratory is certified by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) for fungal testing of air, bulk and surface samples through the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program (EMLAP). The laboratory is an AIHA-LAP, LLC Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing (EMPAT) participant for fungi and Industrial Hygiene Proficiency Analytical Testing (IHPAT) participant for asbestos, metals, silica, organics, 3M diffusive sampler, formaldehyde and beryllium.

In addition, LA Testing’s Huntington Beach laboratory is accredited by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for bulk and airborne asbestos analysis. The laboratory is accredited by the California State Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program for lead, TCLP, pH and bulk asbestos as well as the State of Hawaii Department of Health for bulk asbestos. LA Testing Huntington Beach also recently became an accredited CDC ELITE proficient Legionella testing laboratory.
