Bayer People Care for Society – the international talent program:

Bayer talents dedicate professional skills to tackling major health and food challenges in social impact assignments worldwide / Bayer Cares Foundation coordinates assignment locations / Seven employees supported with total donations of EUR 50,000 in current round

How can Bayer talents play their part in solving humanity’s major healthcare and food security challenges? The Bayer Foundation’s Bayer People Care for Society program enables selected employees to take a three-month sabbatical to undertake social impact missions. The seven sabbaticals granted in the current round of Aspirin Social Innovation Awards are being funded to the tune of EUR 50,000 by the Bayer Cares Foundation. The seven Bayer employees will be using their professional skills to support start-up projects with the potential to achieve sustainable systemic changes in healthcare and food security. And it’s not just these projects that profit from the social sabbaticals. All seven will return to their workplace much the richer and wiser for the valuable experiences they have made. And Bayer will benefit from the ongoing development of these employees’ talents and the broadening of their horizons.

For the current round of social sabbaticals Bayer has selected the following seven employees: 
• Dr. Kirsty Brain from Leverkusen, Germany, is supporting Bisa in Ghana, an organization that has developed an app to enable people living in rural areas in Africa to contact a pool of volunteer doctors. The app enables people to get concrete medical advice without a long and exhausting journey to some distant clinic.
• Max Norman Cuda from Whippany, USA, is working for Kamal Kisan in India, an organization that supplies smallholder farmers with agricultural tools and machinery to suit their specific needs.
• Mauricio Jensen from São Paulo, Brazil, and Jiayin Cecilia Wang from Leverkusen, Germany, are supporting the MLOVE Foundation in Greece. Its mobile Refugee First Response Center offers refugees medical care in a specially modified container and overcomes language barriers by using remotely connected on-demand interpreters.
• Paulina Malecka from Warsaw, Poland, is working for Afi in Moldavia, an organization using today’s mobile technologies in the daily treatment of TB patients. 
• Milena Cristina Pereira from Sao Paulo, Brazil, is spending her social sabbatical at Hohenroth SOS Farm in Germany where people with mental disabilities lead a self-sufficient life doing worthwhile jobs in the garden, bakery or wood workshop.
• Sophia Zeeden from Leverkusen, Germany, is supporting discovering hands® in Mexico, an organization that trains blind women to become medical tactile examiners (MTEs) in early breast cancer screening, using their extraordinary tactile sense to transform a perceived disability into a talent.

Bayer Cares Foundation launched the Bayer People Care for Society Program in 2014 and since then has sent out 15 employees on social missions worldwide.
