French Author Marks Career with Three Notable Publications

Prolific writer Jean-Eugène Havel excels in different genres.

Jean-Eugène Havel has lived long enough to write a dozen books on a variety of subjects. Writing in French since the start of his career, the prolific author hopes to cap off his illustrious career by writing a few books in English. He has written two books in English to date, and both will be displayed at upcoming international book fairs.

His first book in English is a wartime youth memoir titled The Five Sisters: A Young Norman in the Second World War (Melrose Books, 2014). The memoir narrates Havel’s idyllic youth in the Norman countryside, his upbringing under his maternal grandmother and his aunts (his mother’s sisters, thus the title of the book), his relationship with his emotionally detached father, and his experience of the German Occupation.

His other book Brooks (Melrose Books) is a love story with heavy reference to pagan mythology and is also written in English. The title of the book refers to the name of a university in the north of Ontario, Canada where the story occurs. In Brooks, the protagonist is a female college student who has the ability to predict the future and communicate with supernatural beings.

Another noteworthy publication is Habitat et lodgement (Presses Universities de France, 5^th edition 1985). Translated as “Housing and housing” in English, the book deals with housing issues. Havel offers solutions to the issues and underscores the role of the public and private sectors in resolving them. He extols the importance of technology in mass producing quality, affordable housing. The book is written in French but is also translated into Spanish and classical and modern Chinese.

With the publication of these books, Havel has already built a legacy of dedication to writing, which should inspire aspiring authors to hold on to their craft and allow time to nurture their skills.
