Guggenheim Museum to Offer Special Hours on December 28

NEW YORK, NY – WEBWIRE

Now in its final weeks at the Guggenheim Museum, until January 7, 2018, Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World is a major survey of contemporary art from China spanning 1989 to 2008. Presenting work by 71 key artists and groups active across China and worldwide, the exhibition surveys artistic experimentation during two pivotal decades that marked the end of one world order and the start of another. The New York Times called Art and China after 1989 a “powerful, unmissable event.”

The museum will offer special holiday hours on Thursday, December 28, from 10 am to 5:45 pm. Hours on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24, are 10 am–4 pm. The museum will be closed for Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, and open on New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31, from 10 am to 5:45 pm, and on New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, from 11 am to 6 pm.

Also on view are Josef Albers in Mexico, an exhibition illuminating the relationship between the forms and design of pre-Columbian monuments and the art of Josef Albers; the Guggenheim Collection: Brancusi, showcasing sculptures by Constantin Brancusi alongside photographs of the modernist master in his studio; the Thannhauser Collection, a selection of paintings, works on paper, and sculptures that represent the earliest objects in the Guggenheim’s collection. Documentary films by China’s most daring filmmakers are also screening as part of the series “Turn It On: China on Film, 2000–2017,” curated by Ai Weiwei and Wang Fen.
