Determination and Perseverance in the Face of Discrimination

Rising above dire circumstances makes one a stronger person. Military veteran Jimmy Mosley has been through much oppression and discrimination early on in his life. His memoir, Outhouse to Whitehouse, has him telling his ups and downs.
 
Growing up on a plantation, Mosley has experienced his fair share of poverty, racism, and abuse. However, he did not let his experiences deter him as he worked to succeed. His hard work and determination enabled him to land a job at the White House, where he has witnessed even more discrimination. Despite his difficult situation, Mosley did not let his misfortune get in the way of his work and persevered even further.
 
By sharing his story, Mosley hopes to inspire readers to maintain a hopeful and positive outlook in life despite the odds. He credits his marriage, his military service, and his faith and love toward God and his country for allowing him to pull through much difficulty. “Outhouse to Whitehouse’s desire is to persuade its reader to reflect, and realize that it’s still possible to overcome great barriers in this country,” he says.
 
Mosley was interviewed about his book on America Tonight, which aired on November 27, 2017.

Jimmy Mosley served his country as a soldier for thirty-five years. The fifty-three-year-old veteran is also a Sunday school teacher and a youth mentor. He views his tenure in the military and his long marriage as inspirational learning experiences. He lists fishing and spending time with his family as activities he enjoys.
