In 2017, more than 700 local associations in 70 countries benefited from the skills and commitment of L’Oréal employees. On 5 continents, 30,000 volunteers from L’Oréal took part in these one-day events aimed at fostering solidarity. This record level of participation confirms that the force of the commitment is still growing, 8 years after the first-ever Citizen Day. Starting with 20,000 employees in 2013, participation rose to over 30,000 in 2017, an increase of more than 50% over the last 4 years.

The major issues in our society call for collective responses,” explains Jean-Paul Agon, Chairman and CEO of L’Oréal, and the initiator of Citizen Day. “I am convinced that by encouraging company employees to engage with association members, we can make a positive contribution. It is a great source of pride to see that each year a growing number of L’Oréal employees volunteer to help causes of general interest in the local areas where we operate”.

Positive feedback from associations on the impact of the 1450 initiatives

The results of the overall satisfaction survey questionnaire sent to associations all over the world are extremely positive. In fact, 9 out of every 10 associations who responded believe that Citizen Day helped improve the everyday lives of their beneficiaries, and 83% of the associations mention at least one activity that would not have been feasible without the support of L’Oréal employees. A total of 99% said they were satisfied with the ratio of time spent/result achieved.

To extend this commitment in a long-term perspective, many countries reinforce the partnership with their Citizen Day beneficiary associations over the rest of the year.

A panorama of key Citizen Days around the world

More than 1,000 employees repainted the streets of the historic Jing An quarter, in the heart of Shanghai in China, to make it more welcoming. Twelve houses were rebuilt in Peru for families affected by natural disasters, thanks to the association Riberas de Cajamarquilla Chosica. 305 employees from the head office and a factory in Cairo spent the L’Oréal Egypt Citizen Day organising a sports day with disabled beneficiaries, in partnership with the Helm Foundation. In Serbia, 350 metres of fencing were repainted around a recreational area, and 900 seeds were planted to create a sensorial garden for children. In South Africa, brand ambassadors took part in Citizen Day to help the Kaalfontein Primary School for orphans in Midrand. In France, 80 women beneficiaries from four associations - Parrains par Mille, Foyer Jorbalan, Ni putes Ni soumises, and Secours Populaire – spent a whole day in well-being and beauty workshops at the L’Oréal World Hair Research Centre at Saint-Ouen.

Shared commitment

More than 7000 photos shared on the L’Oréal Citizen Day app, and hundreds of posts on social media (#citizenday and #weareloreal), reflect the pride of the employees who spent a day helping to improve the everyday lives of 370,000 beneficiaries.

Thanks to the commitment of L’Oréal’s employees, the impact of Citizen Day is getting stronger year by year.

WE ARE ALL CITIZENS!
