The Power of Storytelling

Stories have the power to impact change on people, especially children. They love to listen to them because of the thoughts and feelings they evoke. This is especially true in Laxmi Jagadish’s Afternoons with Grandma: A Collection of Folktales from Around the World.
 
In the book, siblings Josh and Tamara are seen enjoying stories from their grandma after school. Like every child, the siblings go through human experiences and challenges as they grow up. Grandma’s stories, which were passed down from generation to generation, originate from different places. Although no tale is the same, every piece helped the siblings feel better while undergoing the pains that come with maturity.
 
Jagadish’s book, presented at the New York Regional Book Fair in 2014, hopes to instill good values into young readers. “I also hope that parents of younger children will use this book to spend time reading and telling stories with their children, as this is truly a fun way to build strong family values and bonds,” she says.

About the Author
Laxmi Jagadish grew up under supportive parents who encouraged her to pursue her passion for writing. She enjoys creating children’s stories and dedicates them to her own two children. Jagadish, who holds a master’s degree in speech pathology, was raised in Malaysia. She currently resides in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
