Tommy died in an accident that shook the lives of everyone who knew him. There was no way Pat and her family could have prepared for his sudden passing. The grief prompted Pat to channel all her emotions into writing. She found that being able to openly talk about Tommy’s death, even just on paper, helped her accept the situation.

As a trained bereavement minister, Pat Monahan usually recommends journaling to mourners. She didn’t know she would have to do it too until Tommy, her nine-year-old grandson, died. She compiled her writings alongside other realizations in her book “To Thee We Do Cry: A Grandmother’s Journey through Grief.”

The grief prompted Pat to channel all her emotions into writing. She found that being able to openly talk about Tommy’s death, even just on paper, helped her accept the situation. She recovered from depression and recounts her healing journey in her book. “I chose to print this journal hoping it might help other bereaved families,” says Pat.

In cooperation with LitFire Publishing, Pat Monahan promoted “To Thee We Do Cry” at one of the most popular book fairs in the world—the BookExpo America 2017. The event was held at the Javits Center in New York City from May 31 to June 2.
