Reviewers Recommend Late Pastor Wilbert Gough’s Book On Maintaining Classic Christian Conservative Values Amidst ‘Unfair’ Modern Times

Rev. Dr. Wilbert Donald Gough was a prominent figure in the evangelical resurgence during the 20th century. Today, his memory lives on in a book he authored titled “Life Isn’t Fair – But God Is!” The book has recently been subject to various reviews, and it comes highly recommended for all readers who are searching for hope amidst unfair modern times, as well as those who are faithful to Christian views and, despite many fears, are looking for uplifting words of hope.

“If anyone had reason to feel God unfair, Job did! But he didn’t ever feel God was unfair. And in all his suffering, loss, and pain, Job never blamed God. Rather, Job honored the Lord so well!”

Rev. Wilbert Donald Gough was a highly sought-after speaker and author among evangelical circles during the 20th century. He held a Doctor and Master of Divinity from the seminary of Eastern University, a Master of Theology from Temple University, and a Doctor of Theology from Burton Seminary and also served as an adjunct Professor of Bible at William Tyndale College. He was a Pastor of more than 10 churches in PA, MI, IA, WV, NH and ME. He was awarded the Alumni Service Award from Eastern University, as well as the Oldest Living Person (Boston Post Cane) in York, ME at the age of 104. His writings frequently appeared in the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Decision magazine.

Sadly, he passed away in 2022, but not before leaving behind the manuscript of a book that preserved his way of seeing how our Creator works through ordinary people. Titled “Life Isn’t Fair - But God Is!: Down to Earth Words to Live By”, it’s a collection of essays that are meant to keep inspiring like-minded servants of God for future generations.

Kirkus Reviews describes it as “generally uplifting in tone, asserting that God ‘is still working amazing miracles’ and that He keeps His promises of guidance, love, and comfort found in the Bible.” Another observation, however, is that it’s a book squarely aimed at comforting a down-to-earth Christian reading audience who see today’s world as frightening and unfair. Much of Rev. Gough’s book certainly affirms such fears, acknowledging their suspicions that the injustices of contemporary society are from “Satan and human folly.”

Overall, “Life Isn’t Fair - But God Is!: Down to Earth Words to Live By” by Rev. Dr. Wilbert Donald Gough is a book that will greatly appeal to God-believing readers who still embrace an evangelical theology and highly literal interpretations of scripture and feel the strong need to preserve such values amidst today’s “anything goes” progressive society. The book is available in paperback and eBook on ReadersMagnet Bookstore, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.

Assigned to the Philadelphia Naval Yard, he met, through church, Florence I Arthur in Philadelphia. Their marriage resulted in a lifetime of serving God together.

While living in Philadelphia, Wilbert, employed by TastyKake, and Florence, employed by an accounting firm, became baccalaureate graduates of what is now Cairn University. Ordained by the Philadelphia Baptist Association, he pastored churches in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Iowa, West Virginia, New Hampshire and Maine. He served on the Boards of Alderson-Broaddus College, the American Baptist Churches, and Detroit Baptist Manor (founding member), as well as serving as an Adjunct Professor of Bible at William Tyndale College in Michigan.

Wilbert and Florence had two children, W. Donald Gough, Jr., and Diane Elizabeth Fowler, six grandchildren, and eight greats. Wilbert went to be with his Lord on August 13, 2022, after living a Christ-filled life of 104 years!
