AT&T, Telecommunications International Union Reach Tentative Agreement in Local 103 Contract Negotiations

WEBWIRE

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Telecommunications International Union in Wireline contract negotiations covering members of Local 103 in California.

The agreement is the second to be reached with a bargaining unit representing AT&T Core Wireline workers.

The TIU contract expired on July 18. Employees have been working under the terms of the expired contract while negotiations continued.

The agreement provides for additional earnings potential through a new sales title and increased flexibility in scheduling time off. Specific terms will be shared with the membership by the union. The TIU will determine the ratification process.

Bill Blase, senior executive vice president-Human Resources, praised the negotiating teams on both sides for their work in reaching a tentative agreement during tough economic times and a period of significant changes in AT&T’s wireline business.

“This agreement provides for a fair and balanced contract that will continue to provide good union jobs with wages and benefits that are among the best in the country,” Blase said.

TIU Local 103 follows AT&T’s Midwest (CWA District 4) Region, which announced a tentative agreement on July 15; results of a ratification vote on that agreement are expected on Aug. 7.

Negotiations are continuing in other regions where contracts expired on April 4, as they did in Midwest. They include East (CWA District 1), West (CWA District 9), Southwest (District 6) and Legacy T (CWA ComTech unit). In the Southeast region (CWA District 3) where the contract expires on August 8, negotiations are also ongoing. The IBEW Core Wireline contracts, for employees mostly in Illinois and northwestern Indiana, are also currently under negotiation; those contracts expired June 27.

A total of about 120,000 employees are covered under the various contracts.
