Thomson ELT Becomes Exclusive ELT Publishing Distributor of Auralog

Boston, MA, 02/23/2006, Thomson ELT, a leading provider of materials for English language teaching and learning throughout the world and part of The Thomson Corporation (TSX: TOC; NYSE: TOC), today announced a strategic alliance with Auralog to create enhanced learning tools for students of the English language. Thomson ELT will distribute Auralog web-based and CD content and materials that have been repurposed to complement Thomson ELT print products. Auralog, the first multimedia publisher in the world to apply speech-recognition technology to foreign-language learning, is a world leader in its field.

English has become the language of international business, and this has spurred the growth of English language learning throughout the world. It is estimated that there are more than one billion learners of English, with diverse access to education and learning styles. In combining Thomson ELT print products with Auralog digital solutions, students will have instant access to learning materials from any location in a format that suits their individual learning style.

Auralog’s speech recognition tools, when added to Thomson ELT products, will give learners the resources they need to improve their ability to communicate in English. Auralog products model correct pronunciation and compare it to the learner’s actual pronunciation. Analysis of pronunciation, including mistakes, is provided along with tools for correction. Learners learn to communicate effectively in spoken English, an essential skill in using the language.

“We’re very pleased that we can now offer Auralog’s digital English language learning materials to our customers,” said Dennis Hogan, president, Thomson ELT. “Through the technology of Auralog, including its speech recognition ability, students will have greater access to quality English-learning materials in a variety of formats accommodating all types of learners.”

In addition, through this agreement, Thomson Learning will have the rights to promote and distribute Auralog products on a stand alone basis, as well as with other Thomson products.

Beginning this spring, students will be able pair Thomson ELT print materials with access to Auralog technology through web-based subscriptions. For additional information, visit: http://elt.thomson.com/
