Cutting-Edge Communications, Energy Conservation Serve Aloha Spirit

HONOLULU - Trump International Hotel & Tower ® Waikiki Beach Walk ® - Hawaii’s newest and most luxurious Island resort, has selected Nortel* [OTC: NRTLQ] to provide a unified communications (UC) network to help streamline behind-the-scenes communications and meet the requests of guests more quickly and effectively. The new UC system will help the resort increase revenues by reducing energy costs, and by enabling sophisticated new guest services, such as high-speed Internet packages to help guests stay connected to the business world, even on their tropical Hawaiian get-away.

“From the desk in the suite, to the lounge chair by the pool, guests now have comprehensive, simple-to-use network access available by whatever means they prefer,” said Jillian Sell, technology consultant, Prime Focus Consulting, LLC. “We carefully selected this solution to deliver the best of both worlds for us as a management company, and for the developers and owners. This solution provides complete and continuous communications as well as a solid ROI business case. We are dedicated to being good stewards of the Island and the environment, so the ability to harness powerful energy savings serves our green philosophy and lowers total cost of ownership.”

The operation of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Waikiki Beach Walk is being managed by local consulting firm Prime Focus Consulting, LLC.

“Trump, a name synonymous with luxury, standard-setting accommodations and the best service in the business, chose our Hospitality Solutions to provide the best possible guest services and communications experience for their patrons,” said Joel Hackney, president, Enterprise Solutions, Nortel. “Our experience in delivering solutions optimized for the hospitality industry is unique and we’ll gladly go head-to-head with any vendor to prove it.”

Energy-efficiency was a key factor in the selection of Nortel’s architecture. Third parties have shown that Nortel data networking products provide up to 20 times the performance and seven times the resiliency than its competitors’ solutions, while consuming up to 40% less energy and costing up to 50% less to own and operate.** With costs cresting .25 cents per kilowatt/hour, this is particularly critical in Hawaii, one of the most expensive electricity markets in the world.

Nortel’s Energy Efficiency Calculator allowed network planners to chart different scenarios, resulting in the most efficient, cutting-edge network with the smallest carbon footprint available. “The Energy Efficiency Calculator enabled us to plot the most beneficial design. We anticipate realizing an Energy Savings of $430,000 over 60 months, providing a return on investment within three years. This proved to provide the best all-around value in this market,” said Sell.

Trump’s new communications infrastructure is based on Nortel’s Hospitality Solutions , designed and purpose-built to serve the hotel of the future. Nortel Communication Server 1000E is the unified communications platform that enables real-time communications, such as voice and video; the Hospitality Messaging Server 400 provides a direct interface for guests and staff to access messages. The solution also includes Nortel’s energy-efficient Ethernet Routing Switches 5600 and 4500 series of switches, and Nortel Wireless LAN 2300 products to provide any-where, any-time mobile connectivity.

Enabling unmatched pampering of guests, the Nortel Mobile Extension and IP-based communication to SIP Devices enables the staff to collaborate in real-time, regardless of location or device, speeding response and increasing the pace of business operations.

In addition, Nortel Global Services provided key design, build-out, implementation and operations of the network, allowing the Trump staff to keep their focus where it should be - on serving their guests.

Nortel is transforming the hospitality industry with innovative technologies and strategic services that enhance the guest experience generate new revenues and improve operational efficiencies for hotels, resorts, casinos, stadiums and arenas.
