Finalists Will Present Case Studies at Gartner Master Data Management Summit in Los Angeles, October 5- 7, 2009

STAMFORD, Conn. — Gartner, Inc. is accepting nominations for its annual Master Data Management (MDM) Excellence Award Program. Nominations will be accepted from any end-user organization that has implemented a successful MDM strategy with resulting business impact. Nominations must be submitted by August 17, 2009.

“Hearing first hand about these MDM implementations is key, since successful implementations of MDM rely heavily on leveraging best practices like essential communication, addressing data quality issues, meeting business and/or technology objectives and all are even more paramount as MDM technology continues to mature,” says Andrew White, Gartner research vice president and research co-chair of the Summit.

Enterprises are invited to enter and work within a case study framework to describe their MDM initiatives and why it demonstrates business excellence. A team of Gartner analysts will evaluate and select three finalists based on the Seven Building Blocks of MDM, a strategic framework developed by Gartner to help companies maximize the probability of success. The Seven Building Blocks of MDM include:

* Vision
* Strategy
* Metrics
* Governance
* Organization
* Processes.
* Technology Infrastructure

“Striking the right balance between technology and non technology issues (particularly governance), as well as ensuring that the MDM strategy aligns with the business vision and can be measured via a set of metrics, is key to success,” said John Radcliffe, Gartner research vice president and research co-chair of the Summit. “The MDM Excellence Award honors the company that has shown leadership in ensuring that their MDM initiatives have achieved consistency, accuracy, integrity and semantic consistency of master data assets in support of key business and IT initiatives.

A review team from the Gartner analyst community will evaluate and rate each entry based on how clearly the entrant demonstrates excellence in their MDM initiative. A panel of three finalists will be selected and subsequently required to present their MDM case study to the conference participants at Gartner’s MDM Summit 2009, taking place October 5-7 in Los Angeles. Conference participants will vote on which of the finalists demonstrated the best example of MDM excellence and a winner will be selected. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, October 7, during the conference.
