Warren County Farmers’ Fair Balloon Festival Gives Back

Warren County, NJ – The Warren County Farmers’ Fair featuring the Hot Air Balloon Festival will be hosting the 3rd annual Bicycle Balloon Race on Wednesday, July 29, 6:30 pm. This interesting demonstration of aeronautic skills and physical endurance pairs balloonists with professional cyclists. Balloon and cyclist soar through the air in the hot air balloon with the bicycle strapped to the basket for the first leg of the competition. The pilots must fly beyond a designated landmark at which point they are able to land and let their cyclist out of the basket. The cyclist then must head back to the finish line at the main entrance of the Warren County Farmers Fair located on County Rt. 519. Balloon rides are donated by participating pilots and the bicyclists pay an entry fee to compete. Prize money is split between the winning team members. All of the proceeds from registration fees are donated to the ADM Foundation, a charity that assists three local children who lost their parents in a motorcycle accident. Last year’s Bicycle Balloon event raised $1,680 in registration fees for ADM. Last year’s race winners were pilot Tony DiCocco and rider Eric Schnorrbusch. Coincidentally Eric is one of the founders of the ADM Foundation and graciously donated his prize winnings to the foundation.

In keeping with the biker theme, the Fair is holding their first Biker Night on July 29. If you have a motorcycle you would like to show, just ride to the Fairgrounds by 5:15 pm. The owner and one passenger will be admitted free of charge. If you would like to participate in a ride around the walkways meet on Stryker’s Road via the north end, past the Livestock gate to the center back gate at 5:30 pm. The ride will be led by Fair Director Frank Van Horn with a special local celebrity as his passenger; ending up on the dance floor (asphalt base) where you will park your bikes to display them. At 6 pm members of Rolling Thunder Chapter 3 of NJ will assist with the opening ceremony (presentation of colors) in the main arena. All biker’s are invited to the ceremony prior to the start of the Tractor Pull.

The biggest fundraiser for the ADM Foundation will be the 4th Annual Vreeland Charity Ride taking place on Saturday August 1, 2009. Over 1,000 bikes will gather at the start location, Rollin’ Fast Cycle Sports, 104 Main Street, Lebanon. The ride will end at Alpha Boro Park, Vulcanite Avenue in Alpha where there will be a picnic from 12 pm - 10 pm. Events include a live band, DJ, raffle, auction items and great food.
