HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation will provide electricity generated from renewable sources, such as wind power, solar power, and biomass, for two all-star games organized by the Nippon Professional Baseball Association (NPB) in Japan. These ‘green powered’ 2009 all-star games will be played at the Sapporo Dome on July 24 and at the MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima on July 25, 2009.

Mazda is committed to the pursuit of driving pleasure balanced with environmental and safety performance. As part of this pledge, Mazda is supporting the ‘NPB2008 Green Baseball Project,’ an initiative involving Japan’s 12 professional baseball teams that is intended to help prevent global warming.

Eco-friendly ‘green electricity’ will be used for the games under the “Green Power Certification System.” Mazda will indirectly provide the electricity to illuminate the nighttime all-star 2009 games by purchasing a “Green Power Certificate” for 12,000 kilowatt hours and presenting it to the Nippon Professional Baseball Association (NPB). Using green power for the games is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 6.6 metric tons.
