February 22, 2006, ATLANTA – NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today announced that its Systemedia Division, a manufacturer of world-class printer consumables, received qualification as a Generation 2 (Gen 2) radio frequency identification (RFID) label converter under Alien Technology Corporation’s certification program.

NCR is one of the primary RFID label converters adhering to current Gen 2 standards and requirements established by EPCglobal and industry participants. Its stock product offerings of today’s popular configurations for Gen 2 products are available for shipment and customized products can be manufactured to meet market requests.

“As a leader in developing end-to-end radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions, NCR is well-prepared to provide high-quality Gen 2 RFID tags designed to increase reliability and consistency,” said Mark Quinlan, vice president and general manager for NCR’s Systemedia Division. “The primary advantages of implementing the NCR Gen 2 products include increased read rates and improved speed.”

The Gen 2 qualification from Alien further supports the advanced capabilities of NCR RFID tags or smart labels, particularly important in realizing reductions in operational costs and increasing organizational efficiency within the supply chain. In addition, Gen 2 RFID tags from NCR offer an increased data capacity over first generation tags and permit retailers and manufacturers to implement RFID technologies that meet higher performance demands and requirements.

“NCR and its Systemedia Division are highly regarded in the marketplace as one of the key participants in the advancement of RFID technologies across multiple industries,” said Keith McDonald, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Alien Technology Corporation. “Alien’s Gen 2 qualification program requires labels of high quality and consistency and we are confident of Systemedia’s converting capabilities in this regard.”
