From one application to another: the « soft touch » of Lotryl® 20MA08

Adding a sensorial element such as « soft touch » to packaging is a property which the cosmetics industry has put to optimum use in recent years. Applying it to a highly competitive sector like food packaging is a much tougher challenge, to which Lotryl® 20MA08 has now found the answer. With its expertise in sensorial analysis, the GRL Research Complex has singled out a new property in Lotryl® 20MA08: its ability to enhance the feel or « soft touch », at a competitive price.
Lotryl® films are used to manufacture gloves (hair-dye gloves), well-known for their outstanding feel.
On the strength of this obervation, the GRL Sensorial Analysis Laboratory recently highlighted and confirmed this inherent characteristic of Lotryl ® 20MA08.

From a number of descriptors selected by the laboratory (hot, cold, tacky, rough, coarse, oily, gummy -sensation of moving solids to the touch-, blocking -resistance to initial touch-, and slippery -resistance during moving touch-), GRL has conducted a study which has demonstrated the sensorial properties of Lotryl® 20MA08.
Comparisons of touch between a polystyrene sheet coated with a Lotryl® 20MA08 film and a dairy dessert standard pot have clearly shown that the « soft touch » Lotryl formulation unmistakably outperforms existing solutions for every single indicator selected. Tacky and blocking sensations, for example, have been replaced by a rather more gliding and silky touch.

Easy to process, Lotryl ® 20MA08 is applied by co-extrusion as an outer coating over a polystyrene sheet.
This solution offers an alternative to sophisticated solutions involving varnish or other surface treatments normally used for cosmetics packaging, the food sector being a highly competitive segment in which packaging costs must be contained as closely as possible.
