Three digital moms win HP technology makeovers and chance to see Torres compete at the National Championships in Indianapolis on July 9

PALO ALTO, Calif., HP and Dara Torres, five-time Olympic swimmer, mom and businesswoman, today recognized three multitasking moms for their ability to use technology to simplify their lives.

The three winners will receive a personalized HP technology makeover and the opportunity to meet Torres and watch her compete in the U.S. Swimming Nationals in Indianapolis and potentially the FINA World Championships in Rome later this summer.

The “Moms for Simplicity” online essay contest, which ended mid-June, asked moms to upload a photo to an online photo mosaic and, in 200 words or less, illustrate how they use technology to simplify their busy lives. Submissions from around the country touched on everything from how to share recipes online to organizing play dates via email and keeping the family on track with online shared calendars.

Torres helped identify the winners based upon the submissions’ originality, creativity, the use of technology, simplicity and entertainment factors.

“I am a mom who definitely understands what it means to juggle many things, so I loved reading through the entries,” said Torres. “There were so many amazing stories that I had a hard time picking the winners. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in Indianapolis, and hopefully earning all of us a trip to Rome!”

The three winners, chosen from more than 800 entries, shared their personal stories of how they use technology:

* Kimberly Friedman of Marlton, N.J., manages her duties as a business owner, middle school PTA president and mom of a very busy teenager.
* Stacey Fulk of Mansfield, Ohio, is a mom in the military who keeps in touch with her family and pays bills online no matter where she is – including from a war zone.
* Barbara Schantz of Hampton Cove, Ala., runs her home-based business while keeping up with two sets of twins under the age of five.

The personalized HP technology makeovers each contest winner will receive include products such as the HP Vivienne Tam edition notebook, HP Photosmart All-in-One printer and HP TouchSmart PC.

Additionally, all three winners will become “amateur mom reporters” at the swimming competitions, reporting their experiences on the “Moms for Simplicity” website through a series of videos diaries and photos.

“HP congratulates the winners of the ‘Moms for Simplicity’ essay contest and is thrilled to provide them with technology solutions that meet the specific needs of their families,” said Michael Mendenhall, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, HP. “We thank everyone who entered and look forward to cheering Dara on in Indianapolis.”

HP and Dara Torres launched “Moms for Simplicity,” a website, online essay contest and photo mosaic, as a place for moms to inspire and educate each other by sharing stories about how technology simplifies their lives.
