New name for former AT Plastics business underscores commitment to high value, high performance EVA polymers and LDPE resins

DALLAS.- Celanese Corp. (NYSE:CE), a leading, global chemical company, today announced it will rename its AT Plastics Inc. business, an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer and low density polyethylene (LDPE) resin producer, Celanese EVA Performance Polymers Inc. The name change is expected to occur on Aug. 1, 2009.

The new name highlights Celanese’s commitment to this business via its recent investment in the company’s Edmonton, Canada, facility and through its integration into the global Celanese brand. Additionally, the new name reflects the high level of sophistication of the unit’s work in manufacturing EVA copolymers and the resulting value the producer brings to customer applications in both traditional and new markets.

The Celanese EVA Performance Polymers business is a leader in traditional applications for EVA copolymers (under its Ateva® brand name) and LDPE resins, includingflexible packaging, lamination products, hot melt adhesives, medical tubing and automotive parts. Emerging markets for EVA copolymers include pharmaceutical and medical products, the solar energy industry and agricultural applications where precision performance and enhanced delivery are required.

“In the past, under the AT Plastics name, we supported our customers with the development of specialized products that have been tailored to their application and manufacturing processes,” said Michael Stubblefield, General Manager. “Recently, we embarked on a program of intensive research and development to create new applications for EVA copolymers that utilize the special performance properties of these materials in some exciting end markets, such as the pharma/medical and alternative energy industries. These applications require precision performance, high efficiency and long lifecycle as properties that we can address very effectively with our EVA products.”

Stubblefield concluded, “By integrating EVA Performance Polymers into the Celanese family of businesses, we can capitalize on the company’s global brand awareness and recognition, as well as tap the experience and resources of a leader in the chemicals industry, including superior research and development and world-class manufacturing practices to make this one of the elite polymer-producing businesses in the world.”
