BT Global Services and Alcatel-Lucent receive Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award

LONDON, England – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) announced that it has won a prestigious award at Global Telecoms Business Magazine’s 2009 Innovations Award ceremony in London.

Alcatel-Lucent’s seven-year managed services and network transformation contract with BT Global Services (BT GS) was chosen for legacy network transformation and Managed Services Innovations among the world’s leading telecom companies. The coveted awards are chosen by a panel of senior industry executives together with the magazine’s publishing and editorial teams.

Alcatel-Lucent assumed the management and operations of a number of BT Global Service’s legacy platforms late last year. It was the international dimension of the project that appealed to the judges. It is thought to be the first major global managed services contract of its type.

‘We are delighted to be partnering as never before with BT GS in this innovative and wide-ranging outsourcing and network transformation project,’ said Andreas Herzog, President of Managed Services for Alcatel-Lucent. ‘Since the award of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent has built and staffed a series of unique operations and engineering centres of excellence exclusively to handle the BT GS network migration, operations and build activities associated with the networks that have transferred from BT GS.

Alcatel-Lucent’s Nonstop Laptop Guardian was also short-listed for an award at the ceremony. The product is sold through the BT GS product portfolio as Laptop Protection from BT MobileXpress.

This award win follows a similar success in last year’s Global Telecoms Business Innovations, when Alcatel-Lucent won an award jointly with Reliance Communications following the creation of a joint venture in India, to underline Alcatel-Lucent’s thought leadership in the managed services sector.
