How to Use Lighting Fixtures To Increase Jewelry Store Sales Seminar is a Success in Vegas
The annual JCK show is the largest jewelry trade show held in the United States. This year it was held at the Sands Expo & Convention Center from May 30th to June 2nd and featured exhibitors and attendees from around the world. Everybody from the world’s leading diamond manufacturers to the hottest jewelry designers on the planet were in attendance.
JCK Las Vegas offered two, full-days of educational sessions designed to offer practical and proven strategies to assist retailers with making the most of the current economic environment. Topics included business strategies, products, consumer trends, style and design and sales associate training. The sessions were presented by a collection of industry-leading educators and consultants, professional educators, media and retailers.
One of the sessions that packed the house was titled “Lighting The Way”. This program was hosted by Kate Peterson, President of Performance Concepts, Inc. Kate is one of the top jewelry and specialty retail consultants in the country and her seminars are usually standing room only. The seminar focused on the proper way to light a jewelry store in order to set the proper mood for increased sales, employee satisfaction, performance as well as energy efficiency.
Howard Gurock, President of Econo-Lite, which is the jewelry lighting division of Eco-Lite Products, was asked by Kate to attend the seminar to answer all technical questions and to discuss the pro’s and con’s of LED lighting for jewelry stores. Many of the attendees were in the process of designing, building, remodeling or expanding their stores and were eager to learn how the proper use of lighting would create a positive atmosphere in their jewelry stores, lead to happier customers and a boost in sales. Peterson made it clear that using the right blend of high quality lighting, strategically placed, was essential to success. She explained how lighting could pave a path for customers to go directly to stores best merchandise.
Gurock answered all of the questions the attendees had regarding the best way to implement Peterson’s recommendations. Gurock explained what lighting technologies worked best over a showcase, inside of a showcase, in a wall display and the challenges of properly lighting window displays that compete with direct sunlight.
A large number of questions surrounded the use of LED’s as a source of jewelry store lighting. Gurock explained the differences between the different types of LED fixtures, what to look for when deciding on purchasing a LED, the right questions to ask when considering the purchase of an LED and how proper heat management can impact the life of a LED fixture. Gurock also explained which LED fixtures worked best in a jewelry store and which ones were inadequate to properly illuminate diamonds and jewelry from certain distances.
Peterson told all in attendance that retailing was a challenging environment and that high quality lighting should be viewed as an investment and not an expense. All who attended walked away with a new view on how important lighting was to the success of a store.
