Comedy Writer Uses Website to Audition for Late Night TV

New York, NY, USA, June 11, 2009 – How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice. How do you get to write for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon? Create a website called HireMeFallon.com.

That’s what comedy writer Gary Apple did, hoping to get on the staff of Jimmy Fallon’s new late night talk show. “Producers get buried in submissions from the big talent agencies,” said Apple. “I decided to do something to stand out.”

So he registered the domain name HireMeFallon.com and began writing daily, topical jokes as an audition. Here are a few examples, pulled from this week’s news…

“Citing unspecified health dangers, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez banned the sale of Coke Zero in his country. He then went on to revoke Dr. Pepper’s medical license.”

“Can you believe that Fiat, the makers of those tiny cars, is buying Chrysler? I also heard the company that makes Mack Trucks is being acquired by Tonka.”

Apple, who has written for a slew of comedies such as The Simpsons, is realistic about his chances. “I’ll be amazed if it works,” admits Apple. “If you begin seeing Google ads on the website, you’ll know things aren’t going too well.”

Even if you’re not Jimmy Fallon, you’re welcome to check out Gary Apple’s jokes at HireMeFallon.com. And if you ARE Jimmy Fallon, he’s waiting for your call.
