Compliance and Risks Joins StEP as New Member

WEBWIRE

CORK, IRELAND, May 25, 2009 — Compliance and Risks (C&R) announced today that it has become a member of StEP (Solving the E-waste Problem), the initiative of UN organizations for solving the e-waste problem. StEP has also decided to perform a trial run of C2P, C&R’s regulatory tool which integrates a database of global regulations with full knowledge management capabilities.

StEP’s Executive Secretary, Ruediger Kuehr of United Nations University, commented: “The importance of solving e-waste is a pressing global problem due to markets around the world crossing the ‘digital divide’. Between 2000 and 2005 alone, the Organisation of Economic and Cooperative Development (OECD) noted a 22 percent growth in Information Communication Technology in China, compared to ten years ago when less than 1 percent of China’s population owned a computer. C2P and the expert commentary provided by C&R’s data partners will significantly improve StEP’s ability to stay abreast of rapidly changing global e-waste regulatory developments.”

Compliance and Risks CEO, Damien McGovern, added: “One of StEP’s major challenges is to maintain a database of global e-waste laws while promoting a common understanding of e-waste terms and concepts. The better the regulatory framework for doing this, the better the chance of solving the e-waste problem.”

About StEP
In conjunction with prominent members from industry, governments, international organizations, NGOs, and the science sector, StEP initiates and facilitates a five-step approach toward the sustainable handling of e-waste.
