Enhanced with new features and functionality, ALEOS embedded intelligence is now common across the entire AirLink™ product suite

VANCOUVER, Canada – Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR - TSX: SW) today announced that the robust ALEOS™ embedded intelligence platform will be available on the MP line of rugged in-vehicle mobile routers for the first time. With the addition of ALEOS, which enhances the intelligence and feature set of the MP product line, all AirLink™ gateways and routers from Sierra Wireless will share a common firmware platform, simplifying device management and support. The new release of ALEOS, version 4.0, also includes feature enhancements such as improved security and routing functionality, as well as embedded ACEmanager, the new browser based configuration and management utility in the ACEware™ remote management suite.

AirLink MP mobile routers have a rich history with public safety organizations due to their rugged form factor, reliability and multiple interfaces, and have become the industry benchmark for rugged in-vehicle communication gateways. The addition of ALEOS will serve to further cement the reputation of the MP as the product of choice for law enforcement, fire and rescue, and emergency field services organizations.

For over a decade, ALEOS embedded intelligence has simplified wireless M2M solutions for customers of the AirLink product line, while consistently evolving to meet ever-changing market needs and applications. The comprehensive embedded application services within ALEOS enable seamless integration of AirLink gateways and routers into an array of mobile and M2M applications, spanning diverse vertical markets that include mobile data/field service, utilities/energy management, finance, and retail. In conjunction with the tightly integrated ACEware remote management suite, ALEOS is an exceptionally powerful platform, simplifying an entire deployment from initial integration and configuration, through comprehensive control and management for the entire solution lifecycle.

“The integration of ALEOS embedded intelligence simplifies device deployment and fleet management for our flagship MP lineup, and is highly anticipated by our customers and partners,” said Justin Schmid, vice president of the Mobile and M2M group for Sierra Wireless. “Coupled with the myriad features of ALEOS 4.0, the MP will share a powerful and common embedded intelligence and remote management platform with the rest of the AirLink suite. We remain laser-focused on providing simple, high-value offerings that deliver on the promise of lowest total cost of ownership for our customers.”

Embedded ACEware
With ALEOS 4.0, customers will begin using the recently announced ACEware 4.0 suite of management software. ACEmanager, the comprehensive one-to-one utility, is now embedded in ALEOS and provides a rich out-of-the-box remote management experience via a web-fronted user interface, requiring no host software installation to get started. ACEmanager allows customers to perform comprehensive device setup, configuration, control and management from anywhere with internet access. In addition, ALEOS will perform over-the-air updates, enabling access to future ACEmanager features and capabilities.

Additional ALEOS 4.0 Feature Enhancements
ALEOS 4.0 includes all the features and benefits that have provided Sierra Wireless customers with leading edge device level intelligence for over a decade, with a series of notable enhancements including:

Security: ALEOS 4.0 has been enhanced with a variety of new security features, including a fully compliant IPsec VPN, port filtering and support for up to five simultaneous VPN tunnels. Enhanced IPsec and VPN support gives customers peace of mind, knowing their data is secure from the end-point to their central dispatch.

Routing: To increase flexibility and support for multiple assets, ALEOS 4.0 supports new routing capabilities, like NAT, Port Forwarding and DHCP Server & Client. These enhancements enable customers to extend communications to multiple assets around a single gateway in the field.

Events and instrumentation: ALEOS 4.0 now includes a sophisticated events reporting engine, allowing customers to easily configure their AirLink devices to automatically report events to a third-party application, email address and/or a text message. This enables adopters to richly instrument, monitor and control their assets through AirLink gateways with externally available inputs and outputs (I/O).

ALEOS 4.0 is expected to be commercially available on the MP and other AirLink gateways and routers mid-year 2009.
