Vendor Presentation Introduces Worldwide DB2 User Community to the zIIP as a Fungible Appliance with Dramatic Cost-Cutting Capabilities Made Possible by New Innovations in Mainframe Middleware

WHAT: DataDirect Technologies (www.datadirect.com), the unparalleled leader in data connectivity and mainframe integration and an operating company of Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), will present “Taking the zIIP Beyond DB2: A Holistic Approach to Lower Mainframe TCO” at the Independent DB2 User Group (IDUG) 2009 North America Conference, May 11-15 in Denver.

During the session, DataDirect Technologies’ Chief Architect for the DataDirect® Shadow® product, Gregg Willhoit will explain how, with the right middleware in place, organizations can take a holistic approach to cutting mainframe costs by extending the System z Integration Information Processor (zIIP) specialty engine to new workloads. Attendees will discover how to offload 90 percent of the onerous processing requirements of non-relational data and XML transforms to the no-charge processor. Gregg will introduce DataDirect Technologies’ patent-pending technology and how it can be used to turn a zIIP into what he calls a “virtual, fungible appliance” to address a wider range of integration challenges beyond just DB2 – all with potential to dramatically reduced mainframe costs.

WHO: As Chief Architect at DataDirect Technologies, Gregg provides technical leadership for the company’s mainframe-based Shadow products. He has architected and developed a wide variety of commercially successful system software products and is the co-developer of the ShadowDirect® ODBC-to-mainframe data product for DB2, IMS, VSAM, CICS and Adabas – used daily in many of the largest and most active mainframe database environments in the world.
