Hosting company also joins IBM PartnerWorld for expanded reach

ARMONK, N.Y. - IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced Latisys of Fairfax, Va., a leader in co-location, managed hosting and Internet services, is expanding its data center platform with a rollout of IBM’s new iDataPlex server.

Latisys also said today it has joined IBM’s PartnerWorld as a Business Partner, with the goal of leveraging IBM’s global capabilities in a bid to reach a broader set of customers requiring cost-effective solutions.

Latisys’ selection of IBM’s compact and energy-efficient iDataPlex server -- next-generation technology designed for the emerging Web 2.0 style of computing -- will help it expand its hosting services to gaming and media companies. Latisys has already been working with IBM to deploy blade servers and manage energy consumption. This dual platform is designed to address clients’ immediate needs and position Latisys for anticipated demands.

“We need a hardware platform for the future,” said Carlos Oliviera, Ph.D., vice president, Latisys. “As we bring our successful business model to the interactive media and gaming industries, we’ll require a flexible, highly reliable and energy-efficient data center.”

“iDataPlex will allow us to offer targeted, affordable solutions to these companies; offerings that promise to deliver improved economics for clients,” Don Goodwin, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Latisys added. “We’re delighted to be expanding our relationship with IBM. IBM’s System x allows us to move our enterprise and web hosting offerings into new markets with greatest effectiveness, supporting a wide range of applications.”

iDataPlex is built for massive, Internet-scale computing. It dramatically increases compute density -- it can run the equivalent of 84 servers in a rack that measures 4-feet by 2-feet -- while significantly decreasing energy consumption and associated data center costs. iDataPlex uses 40 percent less power, increases by five times the amount of computing done in the same space and can eliminate the need for air conditioning in the data center.

“Latisys selected a platform that was purpose-built for the high-density and efficient style of computing required for hosting environments,” said Alex Yost, vice president, Systems & Technology Group, IBM. “We’re excited this growing co-location and managed hosting company selected IBM hardware as a foundation for its next-generation offerings.”
