Metech Named as Qualified e-Steward in Seven Locations Across the U.S.

WEBWIRE

April 29, 2009, Gilroy, CA – Metech, a nationwide leader in electronics waste recycling, received approval from the Basel Action Network (BAN) that all seven Metech locations across the country passed e-Steward audits and are now Qualified e-Stewards. E-Stewards are leading North American electronics recyclers who are qualified as upholding the highest standard of environmental and social responsibility.

As the toxic impact of the growing e-waste problem is recognized, BAN encourages all communities, businesses, governments, and citizens to be sure they use only e-Steward recyclers. BAN is developing an accredited, independently audited certification program which will be fully launched in early 2010. This 3rd-party audited certification program, accredited by ANAB, will independently assure conformity to a revised e-Stewards Standard for electronics recycling.

Metech recently merged with Guaranteed Recycling Xperts (GRX) and both companies have been strong supporters of the BAN e-Stewards program for some time. “As we merged and expanded our operations to include seven locations from Massachusetts to California, we appreciated the BAN audit that qualified each of our sites as e-Stewards,” stated Mike Wright, Senior Vice President of Operations. “Customers can now trust that all Metech facilities keep toxic e-waste out of landfills and developing counties, do not use prison labor, and protect against release of private data.”

Another sign of its commitment to environmental stewardship is Metech’s recent investment of $1.5M in its North Carolina facility to build a state-of-the-art CRT monitor processing line. The facility will process roughly 15,000 monitors per month and responsibly recycle one of the most challenging components of electronic equipment.

“We warmly welcome Metech, now merged with Guaranteed Recycling Xperts (GRX), as an e-Steward, and look forward to its CRT processing facility being added in the near future. Metech’s seven locations enhance the e-Stewards’ footprint across the country, giving consumers even more globally responsible options,” stated Sarah Westervelt of BAN.

Metech (www.metechrecycling.com) specializes in environmentally responsible, secure recycling solutions. Metech achieved ISO 9001 and 14001 certification, and is a BAN e-Stewards Founder. Metech maintains operations in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Utah.
