KFC and Talladega Race Fans Team Up for World-Record Chicken Dance Attempt During Kentucky Grilled Chicken™ Launch

TALLADEGA, AL – Race fans at Talladega are used to roof flaps, drafting and trading paint, but for a few minutes before Sunday’s Aaron’s 499, they’ll be concentrating on wing flaps, clucking and shaking tail feathers.

KFC, FOX Sports and Talladega Superspeedway have teamed up to allow stock car racing fans a chance to set a new record for the most people participating in the world-famous “Chicken Dance.” The current record for the largest gathering of people in one location to perform the dance is 72,000. The record was set at a county fair in Canfield, Ohio, in 1996.

“While not everyone will admit it, virtually everyone has performed the ‘Chicken Dance,’ either at a wedding reception or a sporting event,” said Laurie Schalow, Senior Director of Public Relations for KFC. “With our recent launch of Kentucky Grilled Chicken, everyone at KFC has felt like dancing, so we thought we’d share some wing-flapping fun with race fans, and try to set a new world record at the same time.”

The record-breaking attempt, which is part of a broader multi-platform integrated marketing campaign created by KFC, their agency Mediaedge:cia and FOX One, the cross-platform sales division of News Corporation, will take place just before the green flag flies at Sunday’s race at the famed 2.66-mile superspeedway. The KFC Colonel will be on hand to lead the dance, both in person and via video on the track’s giant video screens. A representative from Guinness World Records® will be on hand to verify if enough people participate to set a new world record. With seating for more than 140,000, there should be more than enough fans in the stands for the group to race away with a new world record.

KFC’s Kentucky Grilled Chicken is packed with flavor. It’s marinated and seasoned with a savory blend of six secret herbs and spices and slow-grilled to juicy perfection. The cooking process includes a proprietary blend of spices and uses custom-designed grill racks and patented ovens, making it KFC’s second secret recipe. With between 70 to 180 calories and four to nine grams of fat depending on piece, KGC provides a non-fried option from a brand America knows and loves.
