2005 Foreign Language Film Award Nominees Symposium

Beverly Hills, CA — On Saturday, March 4, at 10 a.m., approximately 36 hours before the winner of the 2005 Foreign Language Film Award is announced at the 78th Academy Awards®, five of the world’s leading filmmakers will participate in the annual, standing-room-only, Foreign Language Film Award Nominees Symposium at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.

Moderated by Oscar®-winning producer and chair of the Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee Mark Johnson (“Rain Man”), the event will feature the directors of the five nominated foreign language films (subject to availability) in a live on-stage discussion on such wide-ranging issues as art, politics and filmmaking.

In addition to presenting film clips from the nominated films, the two-hour event will also provide the opportunity for questions from the audience.

The 2005 Foreign Language Film Award nominees are:

“Joyeux Noël,” France, Christian Carion, director
“Paradise Now,” Palestine, Hany Abu-Assad, director
“Sophie Scholl – The Final Days,” Germany, Marc Rothemund, director
“Tsotsi,” South Africa, Gavin Hood, director

Free advance tickets to the Foreign Language Film Symposium are necessary to secure admission. There is a two ticket per person limit. Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements for 2005 will be presented on March 5, 2006, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST. A one-hour red carpet arrivals show will precede the telecast at 4 p.m. PST.
