ProTV to Develop FLO Modulators, Enabling Greater Choice in Transmitter & Test Equipment and Widening MediaFLO Ecosystem
SAN DIEGO and HERLEV, Denmark . - Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies, products and services, has licensed its FLO™ modulator software to ProTelevision Technologies (ProTV). The agreement allows ProTV to develop and sell FLO-compliant modulators, providing greater choice in FLO transmitters and test equipment available to the mobile broadcast industry. The FLO modulators are expected to work with any transmitters (low, medium and high power) and will be available in three form factors: a PCB EuroCard and two chassis versions, with and without front controls.

“This agreement accelerates the global expansion of MediaFLO™ technology and increases the number of network infrastructure solutions available to the mobile TV community,” said Neville Meijers, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm MediaFLO Technologies. “By licensing our technology to ProTV and other FLO Forum members, we demonstrate our commitment to providing an open mobile broadcast platform that offers choice and flexibility.”

“ProTV (formerly Philips TV Test Equipment) has more than four decades of broadcast network experience across numerous customers and countries,” said Anders Kjempff, director of sales and marketing at ProTelevison. “Combining this domain expertise with a superior mobile broadcast technology such as MediaFLO will provide transmitter and test equipment companies the highest quality products for their mobile TV infrastructure decisions.”

ProTV will demonstrate its FLO modulators for the first time at NAB 2009, April 20-23, at booth #C2322. Qualcomm will also demonstrate the latest capabilities of its MediaFLO broadcast mobile TV platform and value-added services, including interactive applications, at booth # C2146.
