Improved Virtual Railroading on Mac OS X

WEBWIRE

TrainPlayer Software announces the release of TrainPlayer-TrackLayer version 3.2 for Mac OS X, the first major upgrade since the initial Mac release two years ago. The new version is packed with features and content, including practically all the features added to the last several Windows versions. “3.2 brings to the Mac user our state-of-the-art armchair railroading experience,” says Jim Dill, company founder and chief “engineer.”

First released in 2005, TrainPlayer simulates rail operations on prepared model railroad track plans. Among the new features included with the Mac version 3.2 is easy integration with RailModeller, the Track CAD program from MacRailSoft favored by Mac railroaders. The user can design a layout in RailModeller and automatically convert it to a running TrainPlayer layout, ready to add trains and to operate.

Other new features include Linked Layouts, for creating links between layouts so trains travel from one right onto the next, simulating a modular empire. A Scripting capability provides a custom language for operating trains and layouts, a development environment for creating scripts, a recording facility for capturing moves and operations, and a sample showing an automated day of work on the Turtle Creek Central -- just click and watch.

The TrainPlayer web collections include hundreds of fine original layouts by users and railroad artists, plus over nine hundred cars and locomotives of all kinds -- foreign and domestic, steam, electric and diesel. Layouts include Peter Lloyd-Lee’s excellent set of CAD-designed plans and Bruno Pigozzo’s amazing collection of satellite-photo yards from all over the US and Europe. All content is downloadable from Version 3.2 on both Windows and Mac, using new Choosers dialogs for browsing and downloading layouts, car types, and sounds.

Version 3.2 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5. Free demo versions for Mac and Windows are available for download from the company website. For existing TrainPlayer Mac users, upgrade choices are: $24.95 for new program features alone; $39.95 for the features with the Premium collection of layouts and cars; free if product was purchased since 1/1/09. Product prices range from $29.95 for TrainPlayer to $99.95 for TrackLayer Premium, with several price points in between. For more information, visit the company’s web site at www.trainplayer.com.
