14 centers worldwide help outsourcing clients maintain stringent security for business-critical information while lowering operational costs

BLUE BELL, Pa. – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that its multi-client information technology (IT) Outsourcing Operations center in Milton Keynes, UK, has received certification to the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 27001:2005 security standard. With that certification – issued by the British Standards Institution – all 14 of Unisys primary managed services centers are now officially recognized as conforming to this prestigious global standard.

The ISO/IEC 27001:2005 standard promotes internationally-accepted principles governing secure, effective information management practices. The standard helps organizations establish a best-practice framework to manage information security by complying with international data protection, privacy and computer usage regulations.

The ISO/IEC 27001:2005-certified managed services centers are key members of the Unisys network of multi-client IT Outsourcing Operations centers. These deliver a range of end-user and data center IT management and security services to clients, including service desk, server and storage management, and managed security services, such as firewall management and network monitoring. The centers use a “follow the sun” approach based on globally consistent practices. This means that management of a service event can be handed off from one regional center to another transparently, providing continuity of client service from inception to resolution.

“Unisys certified adherence to the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 standard gives our clients a distinct advantage,” said Dr. Gerhard Knecht, global security director and chief security officer, Unisys Global Outsourcing and Infrastructure Services. “It enables them to take advantage of the lower costs and expert services delivery that Unisys outsourcing services provide while retaining confidence that their business operations’, their partners’ and their customers’ critical business information is protected.”

The 14 Unisys managed services centers that have received the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification are:

* North America: Austin, Texas; Blue Bell, Pennsylvania; Rochester, New York; Salt Lake City, Utah;
* Latin America: Bogotá, Colombia; Sao Paulo, Brazil;
* UK/Africa: Johannesburg, South Africa; Milton Keynes, UK;
* Europe: Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Budapest, Hungary;
* Asia Pacific: Bangalore, India; Shanghai, China; Sydney, Australia; Wellington, New Zealand.

In order to achieve certification at each center, Unisys used the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 standard to develop a global best practices Information Security Management System (ISMS), which focuses on key operational areas such as risk management, security policy, physical and environmental security, access control and business continuity management. After a formal review of security processes and facilities, the validating institution certified that the implementation of the global ISMS in each facility met the stringent requirements mandated by the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 standard.

Unisys consistent implementation of the same security processes around the world, and their integration with the company’s ISO/IEC standards-compliant service-delivery and quality management systems, make it easier both to deploy client security solutions that span multiple services centers and to trace handling of specific security events.

Unisys measures the maturity of its security management processes and assesses residual risk through a unique tool called BeATo (Benchmark Assessment Tool), which clients also use. Unisys BeATo uses a capability maturity model similar to the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) approach to process improvement, maintaining consistency of service delivery across all multi-client centers.
