Australian Wholesale Service Provider will Leverage M and MX Series to Create Advanced IP/MPLS Network; Will Deploy Secure Access SSL VPN for Comprehensive Remote Access

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Nextep, NEC’s wholly-owned wholesale broadband division serving the Australian market, will be upgrading its network to a next-generation IP/MPLS routing infrastructure with Juniper Networks. Nextep will deploy Juniper Networks M and MX Series Routers to scale its core network, enabling the rapid deployment of new advanced voice, video and data offerings while improving the performance and efficiency of its existing high-performance broadband services. Nextep will also use the Juniper Networks SA4500 SSL VPN Appliance to provide secure remote access with best-in-class endpoint security capabilities. This ensures only devices that meet corporate security policies are granted access.

Nextep provides reliable, cost-effective and high-speed broadband solutions to Australia’s government and business segments. It distributes the services through a network of channel partners that includes leading tier-2 carriers, ISPs and system integrators. The Juniper solution will increase network capacity, improve performance and lower cost of ownership.

“Upgrading our infrastructure with Juniper platforms will ensure our customers benefit from innovative technology—raising QoS, reliability and performance, while enhancing the responsiveness of hosted applications and services,” said Duncan Wallace, general manager, Nextep Broadband. “The Juniper solution provides unmatched choice and flexibility, ensuring our network can adapt to changing market requirements, while lowering total cost of ownership through the proven, consistent JUNOS® Software.”

Juniper Networks M Series Multiservice Edge Routers are deployed in the world’s largest networks, delivering advanced IP/MPLS edge routing services at scale that enables high-performance service providers and enterprises to rapidly deploy new services while minimizing the total cost of ownership. The M Series Routers provide exceptional flexibility and reliability over a wide range of connectivity options without compromise.

The Juniper MX Series is a family of high-performance Ethernet Services Routers, with powerful switching features, designed for high-performance service providers and enterprises. The MX Series offers advanced MPLS, Multicast, QoS, low latency and security capabilities. It provides unmatched flexibility and reliability to support advanced applications and services, including high-speed transport and VPN services, next-generation broadband multiplay services and high-volume Internet data center internetworking. Both the M and MX Series leverage JUNOS Software, a single source operating system running routing, switching and security platforms, enabling Nextep to simplify its network operations.

The SA4500 SSL VPN Appliance delivers cost-effective secure remote access from any standard Web browser. It features rich access-privilege management functionality that can be used to create secure extranets with no infrastructure changes, no DMZ deployments and no software agents. This functionality also allows organizations to provide secure access to their intranets, so that different user populations can utilize exactly the resources they need, while adhering to security policies.

“To compete effectively, service providers of all types and sizes must differentiate themselves through network performance and service quality,” said Alex Krawchuk, director of service providers, Australia, Juniper Networks. “For service providers like Nextep, Juniper’s SA, M and MX Series provide high-capacity platforms in efficient form factors, for the ability to quickly and cost-effectively accelerate delivery of high-performance services to customers.”
