TestAmerica to Address Data Quality Assurance for Vapor Intrusion Investigations at the 6th Annual EM/DQ Workshop

William Elcoate, TestAmerica Air Product Manager, will present considerations for ensuring data quality in Vapor Intrusion (VI) investigations. The poster presentation will be exhibited at the 2009 DoD Environmental Monitoring & Data Quality Workshop from March 30 – April 3, 2008 in San Antonio, TX.

Vapor Intrusion has been an unaddressed exposure pathway for many years. For the past 15 to 20 years, the risk potential for significant exposure had been suspected, but only until recently has a comprehensive approach to Vapor Intrusion investigations been developed to evaluate and address these risks. The presentation will evaluate various state guidances on Vapor Intrusion, assessing approaches and impact to data collection and analysis. Critical data impacts introduced from sample media, media certification, sampling protocols, and non-VI sources will also be addressed.

With the understanding that many analytical procedures currently being utilized were not developed for the applications to which they are being applied. This presentation discusses the limitations of modified methods and offers best laboratory practice guidelines to evaluate the level of confidence for reported data.

Mr. Elcoate has over 20 years of experience in the environmental testing industry and is currently a technical and regulatory expert for TestAmerica’s Air Testing Program. He has been actively involved in Vapor Intrusion seminars across the nation.
