The Skagit County Chamber Executive Directors Association has announced the launch of its new website at VisitSkagitValley.com just in time for the 2009 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The site focus is Geotourism. Geotourism is defined as tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place-its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents. The site features stunning photography by Lee Mann and other well-know area artists to express the geographical character of Skagit Valley including the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Geotourism also incorporates a principle from its cousin ecotourism, that tourism revenue can promote conservation. The site features photography from the new Natural Skagit book by Skagit Land Trust.

Geotourism aims for quality, not quantity - communities measure tourism success not by sheer numbers of visitors, but by length of stay, distribution of money spent, and quality of experience. The new site features “Things To Do” highlighting activities from Watchable Wildlife to River Rafting and focuses on the entire Valley-from the North Cascade National Park to Guemes Island. To encourage overnight visits, VisitSkagitValley.com began the new Stay&Save campaign offering overnight accommodations starting at $63 which includes an area Savings Pass for restaurants and retailers. “We are excited to launch the new website, VisitSkagitValley.com. We believe our audience will find the website visually stunning, easy to use and comprehensive in the amount of information it provides to Skagit Valley visitors and residents,” said SCCEDA President, Linda Aufrecht.

The site was designed by VisitSkagitValley’s Creative Director Julie Burgmeier of Skagit Marketing and technical support provided by How It Works. “I am privileged to have had the opportunity to design and direct the creative story for this project,” said Julie Burgmeier, Owner of Skagit Marketing. She added, “The site was crafted to clearly communicate the Geotourism key characteristics of Skagit Valley and in time to take advantage of the 2009 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and the 2010 Winter Olympic Games exposure.”

Skagit Marketing has been creating wise effective branding, marketing and public relations materials for organizations nationwide. Their website is located at SkagitMarketing.com.
