Siemens and Juniper Selected for Advanced IP Network in Algeria

WEBWIRE

Munich and Sunnyvale, Calif., February 7th, 2006 - Algérie Télécom (AT) has commissioned Siemens Communications and its global partner Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) to set up a multiservice backbone network based on Next Generation IP technology with MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching). AT is deploying the Surpass Perfect Voice solution and the NetManager network management system from Siemens and Juniper Networks M- and T-series routing platforms to expand its network capacity, enable the convergence of its fixed and mobile network assets and support the rollout of a countrywide broadband access network. The new network infrastructure will enable AT to offer advanced broadband services such as voice over IP (VoIP) as well as telemedicine applications and narrowband voice services on a countrywide basis. The total contract to Siemens is worth around US$20 million.

The Siemens and Juniper Networks solution enables AT to interconnect its new high-performance IP/MPLS backbone with its existing network, protecting previous investments while ensuring AT is equipped to meet future network demands. With the additional network capacity, AT also intends to function as a “carriers’ carrier”, reselling excess capacity to other national and international network operators. Siemens will implement the new infrastructure as a turnkey solution in Algeria. In addition to the supply and installation of the IP technology, the contract also covers network maintenance and training of specialist staff at AT.

Background Information
AT will deploy Siemens’ Surpass Perfect Voice solution in its new backbone network, a low-risk, full-function Next Generation network platform providing easy entry into carrier-grade VoIP networks. Surpass Perfect Voice includes the IP Trunking application designed to reduce the total cost of ownership through network simplification. IP trunking consolidates the network from a large number of trunk exchanges to a small number of Surpass hiE 9200 softswitches controlling Surpass hiG Trunk Gateways.

The Juniper Networks T-series provides AT’s network core with a flexible, powerful and highly scalable routing platform. The Juniper Networks M-series multiservice edge routing platform uniquely combines best-in-class IP/MPLS capabilities with unmatched reliability, security, and service richness.

Both routing platforms operate within the principles of RESIP (RESilient IP), a joint solutions program driven by Siemens and Juniper Networks for the delivery of reliable, secure, quality-assured Next Generation networks.
