SeaChange Powers South Asia’s First All DNxHD TV Channel

SeaChange Systems at Sakshi TV Enable One of India’s First HD Channels to Deploy End-to-End Avid DNxHD Workflow

ACTON, Mass. - SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC), a leading global supplier of high-definition and standard-definition broadcast playout and workflow solutions, announced today that its digital video system is putting South Asia’s first complete Avid DNxHD broadcast operation on air at Sakshi TV. The all-news broadcaster is using SeaChange’s Broadcast MediaLibrary/MediaClient play-to-air platform to support its end-to-end Avid DNxHD workflow, joining a rapidly growing roster of Indian TV operators who have deployed SeaChange systems.

SeaChange’s native support of the Avid DNxHD high-definition production codec format has helped Sakshi TV become one of the first news operations in the world to build its entire workflow - from acquisition to playout - on the HD format. Sakshi’s SeaChange platform, which includes the flexible MCL software-based codec with DNxHD support, allows the broadcaster to frame-accurately ingest and natively play back HD content in the DNxHD format. The BML/MCL system is working in conjunction with Marquis Broadcast’s Medway media transfer and format conversion software, facilitating the movement of video files between Avid News Cutter and Media Composer editing workstations and the BML play-to-air server.

“SeaChange systems have played a major role in helping Sakshi TV to not only become on of India’s early HD broadcasters, but also deploy one of the world’s first end-to-end DNxHD workflows,” said Ms. Geetha, CEO, Sakshi TV. “The high-profile nature of our deployment left no margin for error, and we were and continue to be confident that our SeaChange system is up to the challenge.”

Systems specification and integration for Sakshi TV’s end-to-end HD news channel was completed by MediaGuru Consultants, an independent media consultant in India.

“SeaChange’s software-based MediaClient codecs offer the distinct advantage of being able to natively play out DNxHD encoded content at 120 mpbs in 720p format,” said Sanjay Salil, managing director, MediaGuru Consultants. “The technology and the local service and support from its India office were key factors in our decision to deploy SeaChange systems for playout at Sakshi TV.”

SeaChange’s range of proven content storage, streaming and management solutions, including the FML200 flash memory-based ingest and play-to-air server, and its latest Broadcast MediaLibrary/Broadcast MediaClient play-to-air storage system and SD/HD software codecs, will be on display during NAB2009, April 20-23 in Las Vegas in SeaChange’s booth SU12009. Demonstrations will underscore why broadcasters of all sizes in all parts of the world continue to make the BML/MCL their digital video foundation.
