New System Allows Truck Drivers to Improve Planning While Meeting Regulatory Requirements on Driving, Working and Resting Times

PARIS - Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, will showcase the OmniExpress™ Driver system for the first time in the French market at Salon International du Transporte et de la Logistique (SITL) Temps Réel 2009. This new service and its associated device is a tool for truck drivers to plan their resting and working times for compliance with regulatory requirements.

In a complex regulatory environment, OmniExpress Driver’s new driver interface simplifies planning and alleviates the need for manual calculations of driving and working time. Truck drivers must adhere to complex regulations surrounding daily and weekly driving time limits and compulsory rest periods. Manually tracking driving and non-driving hours and adhering to these regulations can be burdensome for drivers, who are subject to fines if they are not in compliance. The OmniExpress Driver device automates the collection and reporting of this critical information for regulatory compliance.

“Ask transporters what they are looking for in good drivers, and they will say ’people who can plan their work and rest times accurately,’” explains Serge Lardy, sales director, Qualcomm Enterprise Services Europe. “The OmniExpress Driver system automates planning and tracking of work time while enabling drivers to remain in control of their schedule.”

The OmniExpress Driver system offers an optional navigation system based on the latest European mapping, which also helps drivers to plan ahead for their resting and stopping places. The in-cab hardware comes with a touchscreen keyboard designed to enable two-way communications between drivers and their company. This gives drivers the opportunity to inform their dispatch about operational sub-activities, such as differentiating between loading and resting times when the truck is stopped.

OmniExpress Driver is the latest addition to Qualcomm’s OmniExpress™ mobile communications solution for fleet management. The data used by the OmniExpress Driver terminal comes from the OmniExpress on-board hardware, whose role is to turn vehicle and driver data into actionable information used to improve efficiency, reduce expenses and boost performance. OmniExpress and OmniExpress Driver are two separate hardware components, the latter being connected to the former to operate.

OmniExpress is a mid-range, mobile communications solution, which complements Qualcomm’s well known high-end solution, EutelTRACS®. OmniExpress’ enhanced functionality delivers improved, near real-time vehicle monitoring and management of loads and drivers. It can help optimize planning related to routes, drivers and vehicles to improve the effectiveness of driver training and enhance vehicle maintenance and business operations.

OmniExpress services are available via Qualcomm’s FleetVisor™ Web Portal, allowing users to access and manage data and information concerning all Qualcomm transportation services from any location through a single user interface and database.

OmniExpress Driver and other Qualcomm solutions are on display at the Qualcomm booth at SITL Temps Réel 2009, Paris-Expo Porte de Versailles, (Pavillon 7.2) Stand L44.
