HOPKINTON, Mass. -EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, announced today it is on Corporate Responsibility Officer Magazine’s 10th annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List. This is the only such list based on 100% publicly-available information and ranks Russell 1000 companies on their performance in seven key areas: Environment, Climate Change, Human Rights, Philanthropy, Employee Relations, Financial and Governance.

“In good times, checkbook citizenship can win the day,” said CRO Magazine publisher Jay Whitehead. “But in tough times, strong reputations and transparency pack as much punch as a strong balance sheet. In today’s deep recession, human capital and financial capital seek safety—and companies on the 100 Best Corporate Citizens List are today’s safest harbors.”

First published in 2000 by Business Ethics Magazine, the 100 Best Corporate Citizens List is the most-recognized corporate responsibility ranking of Russell 1000 companies. Based solely on publicly-available data, the list puts a premium on companies with high levels of public disclosure and transparency, and is compiled by Portland, Maine-based IW Financial, a leading provider of social responsibility investing rankings to institutional investors. Over the past nine years, companies on the 100 Best Corporate Citizens List have out-paced the remainder of Russell 1000 companies by an average of 26% in three-year total return.

“We are pleased to be included among companies that are doing so much,” said Kathrin Winkler, EMC’s Senior Director, Corporate Sustainability. “As a global company, we have a responsibility to our shareholders, employees, customers and communities to conduct our business in a sustainable and responsible manner. But most of all, it is gratifying for our employees to see their hard work and dedication in advancing environmental and social sustainability being recognized.”

For years, EMC has been committed to advancing education, community relations, philanthropy, diversity and environmental stewardship around the globe. For more information about EMC’s sustainability initiatives, please visit: http://www.emc.com/about/global-citizenship/index.htm.
