NEW DELHI, INDIA – 17th Convergence India 2009 Exhibition, Stand E155, Hall 9 – NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, will demonstrate a wealth of solutions to help Indian broadcasters move cost-effectively into the era of digital TV at the 17th Convergence India event, 18th-20th March 2009.

NDS has a strong track record helping Indian broadcasters successfully launch digital services easily and with maximum cost efficiency. At the show, NDS will highlight solutions that have been deployed for Tata Sky, Bharti Airtel, Digital Entertainment Network (DEN) and Hathway, demonstrating how it is helping these cable and satellite pay-TV providers to grow their subscriber bases and to generate new revenue streams.

For smaller Indian operators who want to introduce digital pay-TV services quickly and cost-effectively, NDS will show VideoGuard Express™, an entry-level conditional access (CAS) solution that is competitively priced to meet the needs of the Indian market. It is pre-integrated with selected set-top box (STB) models and includes a seven-day electronic programme guide (EPG). It offers the same global industry leading security that many of the world’s most advanced pay-TV operators trust to protect their revenues as well as highly capable NDS MediaHighway® middleware, enabler of a wide range of applications and services.

At the show, NDS will demonstrate applications developed locally for the Indian market including the first Hindi electronic programme guide (EPG) and interactive games. More than 26 percent of NDS employees are located in India following significant investment in the NDS R&D centre in Bangalore and commercial offices in both New Delhi and Mumbai.

“India is, and will continue to be, a significant growth market for NDS. Consumers here have a healthy appetite for high-end technology which means we expect to see the introduction of DVRs and other new technologies much more rapidly than in other markets,” said Sue Taylor, Senior Vice President and General Manager of NDS Asia Pacific. “There is also growing competition between DTH and cable providers for position and market share and the result is that pay-TV subscribers will increasingly have access to a broad selection of high quality services at competitive prices.”

Demonstrations on the NDS stand will include:

* Tata Sky+’s end-to-end solution: featuring NDS XTV™ digital video recorder (DVR) technology, India’s first multilingual Hindi EPG developed by NDS, and NDS VideoGuard conditional access technology. The XTV DVR solution allows subscribers to pause, record, play back, rewind and fast forward their recorded TV programmes, offering consumers real freedom and flexibility, and giving pay-TV operators a proven way to grow revenues and reduce churn.
* Bharti Airtel’s DTH service: featuring innovative interactive applications and a multilingual EPG based on NDS MediaHighway middleware technology. Bharti’s interactive TV (iTV) games portal features a variety of action-oriented, educational and puzzle games to appeal to a wide range of viewers
* Solutions deployed by cable operators DEN and Hathway: including DVR services, advanced EPGs and music iTV applications.

At the show NDS will also highlight next-generation services and applications that help to generate new revenues and reduce subscriber churn. NDS will showcase ‘four screen’ convergence, enabling operators, broadcasters and content providers to deliver a seamless TV and entertainment experience to STBs, PCs, Personal Media Players and mobile phones.
