Affordable Drug and Alcohol Rehab Ranch Residence Is Saving Lives in Washington

WEBWIRE

Los Angeles, CA - March 16, 2009 – There is magic happening at Skyland Ranch in Gold Bar, Washington. Lives are being turned around everyday; lives that had been destroyed from drugs and alcohol abuse. Individuals and families that had previously given up any sense of hope are experiencing joy again. Skyland Ranch is a therapeutic rehab ranch that delivers success where so many other treatment centers fail.

The resident population consists of men between the ages of 18 and 60 years. They come from all over the country and as far as England and South Africa. While many are referred by primary treatment programs, most residents learn about the disease of alcoholism and addiction while at the ranch.

David “Pa” Pitkin, owner of Skyland Ranch said, “Horses are prey animals that are more empathic than dogs. They sense ego and attitude so they don’t cooperate. Once the resident treats the horse with respect they both experience success.” The relationship with horses takes the resident from being ego centric to focusing on the horses’ needs.

“I had been in 27 drug and alcohol treatment centers and lost custody of my son. Skyland Ranch gave me my life back. Now I am 2 years sober and have custody of my son. My relationship with him is priceless,” said a recent resident.

Residents attend AA/NA meetings, group sessions and individual counseling are provided. Basic life skills and the process of negotiation and compromise are part of the daily life at Skyland Ranch. All staff members are former residents that have empathy for once being the new guy. There is immediate acceptance like no other facility in the world.

For young people, addicted to drugs and alcohol, the greatest fear is that they cannot ever “have any fun again.” The magic of the ranch is that they are able to negate that fear. Having fun, treating each other, the animals and the environment with respect is able to affect the desired behavior modification necessary for the “good life”.

Skyland Ranch is owned by David Pitkin. It is a non-profit organization. Magic and testimonials can be found at www.skylandranch.org.
