GE Healthcare unveils first portable ECG machine designed in China that incorporates “medical texting” capabilities

GE Energy helping to meet Europe’s increasing demand for renewable energy

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - GE (NYSE: GE) announced today it is extending its global leadership with new technology breakthroughs, partnerships and customer wins including the first portable ECG (electrocardiogram) device that uses “messaging” technology, and advanced wind technology designed to meet Europe’s growing renewable energy demands. GE continues to expand globally through creating local product lines, serving new customers and creating local partnerships.

GE is building upon its strong worldwide leadership with 25 countries outside of the U.S. each generating more than $1 billion in revenues. GE has geographic diversity with 53 percent of the company’s revenues being generated outside of the U.S., with an average of non-U.S. revenues growing at 13 percent annually this decade. Some recent examples of new technologies, partnerships and customers include:

GE Healthcare

GE Healthcare announced today the U.S. launch of the first portable ECG device to combine the keypad of a phone with a full-size color display and world-class diagnostic software. The MAC 800 uses “messaging” technology based on a cell phone and helps clinicians shape the future of healthcare in regions across the world. The MAC 800 offers the features of a full size 65-pound ECG device engineered down to less than seven pounds, including the battery. The unit’s integrated carrying handle enables clinicians to carry it like a briefcase, expanding access to care, regardless of patient location. Originally developed and introduced in China, for China, the lightweight portable device will be available in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2009.

GE Energy

GE Energy announced today that its latest evolution of GE Energy’s wind turbine technology, the 2.5xl wind turbine, is playing a growing role in helping Europe meet its renewable energy demands. The 2.5xl machines for European projects was developed in Germany and will be supplied from GE Energy’s wind turbine manufacturing plants in Salzbergen, Germany and Noblejas, Spain. This machine has been selected for projects across Europe that will add nearly 1,000 megawatts of wind-generated electricity in 2009, or enough to serve over 480,000 typical European households. With a rotor diameter of 100 meters, the 2.5xl is the largest GE wind turbine available for onshore applications and was designed to meet the immediate requirements of Europe, where the lack of available land can limit project size.

On March 11, GE Energy announced it is supplying 12 Jenbacher gas engines to support Russian oil and gas producer Monolit LLC’s project to reduce emissions by utilizing previously wasted gas at a Western Siberian production facility. At the facility, the waste gas—or Associated Petroleum Gas —will be separated into liquefied natural gas and other “transportable” products (including propane, butane, and ethane) for the chemical industry. Monolit is the latest operator to install GE’s Jenbacher engines in Russia as the country seeks to aggressively curtail industry emissions from the flaring of waste gas in order to help meet its environmental goals.

GE Security

On March 9, GE Security in India announced a new business partnership with Wipro Infotech, an IT service provider that provides information security solutions. The agreement with GE Security, which has expertise in areas such as explosives detection, video surveillance and access control, is designed to aid Wipro in offering physical security for clients such as the government, universities and the hospitality sector.

GE Transportation

On March 11, GE Transportation delivered its final shipment of 80 Evolution Series locomotives to Egyptian National Railways (ENR). ENR operates a rail network of over 6,000 kilometers for transporting people, including 800 million passengers annually, as well as goods. To date, 17,000 GE locomotives are in use in more than 50 countries around the world, and GE Transportation has evolved from a supplier to the North American rail industry to a global transportation leader. By the end of 2008, international locomotive orders contributed more than 40 percent of the company’s locomotive-related revenue.
