Geoffrey Darby Named Executive Vice President of Programming for The Weather Channel

Geoffrey Darby has been named executive vice president of programming for The Weather Channel. In his new role, he will have overall responsibility for the network’s programming and production operations and report to the CEO of The Weather Channel.

In making this announcement, Lisa Gersh, interim CEO of The Weather Channel, said, “Geoffrey is a proven leader with a deep understanding of all aspects of media. I’ve had the pleasure of working with him in the past, and there is no question that he is the right person, at the right time, to lead our programming team.”

Prior to his recent consulting role at The Weather Channel, Darby served as president, production & convergence/interactive for Oxygen Media. At Oxygen he was responsible for managing the creative and administrative aspects for Oxygen’s original production slate, Oxygen’s interactive initiatives and all technical functions of the company including broadcast operations, IT operations and software engineering.

Before Oxygen, Darby was president of CBS Eye on People and has held senior leadership positions at several other major media properties including Viacom Interactive and Nickelodeon, where he invented many enduring franchises including Double Dare, Nicktoons and Noggin. An award-winning, seasoned writer and producer, Darby has a multifaceted background that includes building a news organization from scratch and writing sitcoms for ABC.
