HP to deliver services that support GM’s information technology requirements

PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 2, 2006, HP today announced that General Motors Corp. has awarded it more than $700 million in information technology services contracts over a five-year period.

The agreement spans global product development, manufacturing and quality, GMAC customer and dealer information systems, and global SAP enterprise architecture management support.

Building on the existing relationship between the companies, HP Services will work with GM’s Information Systems and Services organization to provide server management, application maintenance and systems integration for a number of information systems areas.

HP Services will be responsible for management of the vast majority of GM’s global engineering workstations, enterprise resource planning hosting, global product development server environments and many of the servers in GM’s Asia Pacific region.

HP Services will provide applications maintenance, monitoring, block-point testing and deployment, and user support for select global product development and GMAC applications.

HP Services will provide overall systems integration to drive product and solution standards, provide a strong focus on continuous improvement, and integrate global domain solutions into enterprise solutions. This will support a global, multi-supplier IT environment for GM that is designed to reduce costs of development and improve global financial processes and operations.

HP Services will use international technology information library (ITIL) - one of the key building blocks for the successful deployment of GM’s next-generation outsourcing model - to deliver all services and to work with other GM IT suppliers to verify that service levels are met.

“HP has a strong track record of collaborating with GM to reduce costs, decrease production cycles and improve quality,” said Ann Livermore, executive vice president, Technology Solutions Group, HP. “We selectively bid on areas where we have strong competencies. We are very pleased to be selected to deliver IT operations and application services to GM’s Information Systems and Services organization that will support the core areas of their business -- product development, manufacturing, quality and finance.”

In congratulating HP on its award, Ralph Szygenda, GM group vice president and chief information officer, said, “HP has and will continue to be a key strategic IT supplier to GM. In their newly expanded role, HP will help support our global IT business goals to ensure that we continue to increase efficiency of operations, cut costs and deliver innovation to the company worldwide.”
