Website Lets Shoppers Donate to Causes As They Spend

Entrepreneur Denise Williams is offering non-profit organizations a new way of bringing in more donations, fashioned after the successful model the late Paul Newman pioneered.

This new way of earning money for non-profits is called “cause” marketing, because donations come from the purchase of specific products that can in turn create donations for specific organizations or causes.

Non-profits organizations are struggling in this recession because donations are down across the board. But Williams may have the answer with a new online fundraising shopping website that can be easily used by supporters and the organizations in need. The business model allows individuals to assign profits of 26 cents of every dollar spent on nearly 300 health, home and personal-care products to support their favorite non-profit organization.

“Non-profits are hurting due to the bad economy,” Williams states. “The result is that large corporations that non-profits depend on are donating less leaving charities with deep concerns about those left in need. This website offers a new approach to fundraising.”

In a traditional fund-raising model, non-profits rely on donations drawn from surplus, flexible funds. In a cause marketing fund-raising model, supporters are able to provide a continued level of giving by redirecting monthly spending toward products that deliver a percentage of the profits to the non-profit. Such a program works. Newman’s Own, for example, has donated over $150 million to charity using this model.

The free turn-key website can be up and running in two weeks, providing non-profits access to new audiences that might not normally donate. The program is also good for individuals because it offers a way to continue supporting organizations they care about, even when they don’t have the extra money available to make a donation. Non-profits all over the United States are looking for a reliable monthly source of revenue.
