Village of Niles, a Chicago Suburb, Proclaims NEC’s Communications Infrastructure Solutions - The Industry’s “Best Kept Secret”

IRVING, TX .- NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a premier provider of network, IT and identity management solutions, announced today the Village of Niles, a Chicago suburb, has successfully implemented a communications infrastructure built-on its NLite® E digital microwave radio solution. The NLite E radios effectively link the back-end communications networks of the Village’s three main campuses; overcoming the main challenge of connecting the City Hall and Police Center.

The Village of Niles turned to NEC for an enhanced communications system to ensure higher performance and network availability for better agency response time to community and citizen events. Prior to deploying NEC’s NLite solution, the Village experienced tremendous network bottlenecks and low reliability when transferring and sharing inter-campus information and files. Often times, this process would take hours; yet after implementing NEC’s NLite E solution, the time was reduced to minutes. Specifically, with more direct access to information, the Police Department was able to gather information up to 40 times faster, which allowed for greater response times to citizen requests.

“In my opinion, NEC is one of the communications industry’s ’best kept secrets,’” says Bill Shaw, IT Director, Village of Niles. “They have been a true partner in helping us connect our communications infrastructure to provide a safer community. By working with NEC, we have vastly improved the speed and efficiency of our network, which has allowed our agencies to better communicate and share critical government and village information. This in turn allows us to better serve our Village’s constituents.”

“Our goal was to provide a high-speed wireless transport system that would deliver an ultra-reliable backbone for the Village of Niles’ mission-critical government applications,” said Jim Limanowski, central regional sales manager, Radio Communications Systems Division, NEC Corporation of America. “Committed to customer satisfaction and ensuring the Village of Niles received optimal investment and performance value, our NLite system proved to be the ideal and most cost-effective alternative to a leased line solution.”

The NLite E is part of the NEC NLite family of products, which employs a common platform to provide scalable configurations to respond to a diverse range of market needs. The NLite family offers a multi-mode transmission solution using 10/100 Base-T and T1 (1.544 Mbps) interfaces; and with the addition of the NLite E’s Gigabit Ethernet interface, NEC can enable throughput levels of over 150 Mbps. The new system is also compatible with various interfaces including 1000BASE-T (copper) and 1000BASE-SX/LX (fiber), which allows for flexible adaptation to an all-IP network, for which continuous growth is expected.
